The Rebirth of Air Berlin: A New Chapter in Aviation History

The renowned brand "Air Berlin," which faced insolvency and bankruptcy six years ago, has found a new owner in aviation operator Marcos Rossello. The mastermind behind Sundair, Rossello, has reportedly acquired the brand for an estimated sum of approximately 120,000 euros.

Once a significant player in the German aviation scene and widely recognized for its extensive connections to Mallorca, Air Berlin succumbed to bankruptcy in 2017, marking a significant chapter in its history as the renowned "Mallorca-Shuttle."

The acquisition of the trademark rights involved a competitive bidding process, with a stipulation that these rights remain operational and available for insolvency administration until all proceedings reach their conclusion. While Rossello has refrained from confirming any intentions to revive the brand, he has intriguingly hinted at having innovative concepts in mind.

Sundair, an airline venture initiated by Rossello back in 2016, specializes in offering flights to sought-after vacation spots, including the ever-popular Mallorca. Recent developments in May 2023 saw the German tour operator Schauinsland securing a majority stake in Sundair, further solidifying the airline's presence and influence.

This acquisition not only marks a potentially pivotal moment for the Air Berlin brand but also demonstrates the dynamic evolution within the aviation industry, with experienced players like Rossello reshaping possibilities and trajectories for established trademarks.
